I live in the Dales, near Askrigg. I make in my workshop at home and in my studio at Farfield Mill, Sedbergh.
I have been working with clay since I was a child. Over the years I have experimented with many different clays, glazes and materials in a number of styles. I do not see myself settling into making the same items long-term. My work and love of ceramics in an ongoing fun adventure as I enjoy the technical side of kilns and firing.
My ideas come from what I experience everyday, running and walking in the fields and hills where we live.
I believe in introducing others to the joy of working with clay and it’s benefits. During my working life I returned to the stress relieving, relaxing experience of creating with clay.
If you would like to experience a one to one making lesson please contact me. If your finances are limited I can usually work out something affordable for you. If you have mobility issues my workshop is accessible.

I also hold workshops in Hawes at Chapel gallery.

The project to create a bust of Hemingway was challenging given the lack of clear images of the man himself.

I made sketches of his features in as many poses as I could find. In many of the images he was sporting his beard. The brief was to create a bust where he was middle-aged. I managed to find just enough information to work with.

This is the finished but pre fired stage. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the process. I intend to do more figurative work in the future. The completed work is featured in the photo gallery above.

I teach ceramic workshops for up to three people in my studio.
Options include making a a ceramic hare or a small messenger bird.
Costs £35-£120.

Depending on your location I can bring ceramics to you. If you would like to discuss having a pottery session at your home or business please get in touch.
